Russia and France announced that in the near future they will conduct a joint humanitarian operation in Syria to help the eastern inhabitants of Ghouta.

A joint Russian-French statement published by the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Elysee Palace said Friday that the joint humanitarian operation aims to meet the needs of civilians in the eastern city of Douma in need of humanitarian assistance and provide urgent medical assistance to people in hospitals run by the Arab Red Crescent Syrian conflict.

Adequate medical assistance will be provided to treat 500 seriously injured people and 15,000 minor injuries. Russia will ensure the airlift of air aid from France.

The joint humanitarian operation comes in line with the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macaron, during their meeting in St. Petersburg on May 24.
